CORRELATION BETWEEN PSORIASIS AND PSYCHIATRIC DISORDERS: LITERATURE REVIEW
Keywords:
Psoriasis, Psychiatric Disorders, Psychological Factors, Stress, Quality of LifeAbstract
Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory disease that primarily affects the skin, with psychological factors playing an important role in this pathology. The aim of this study is to conduct a literature review on the current evidence linking psoriasis with psychiatric comorbidities, exacerbating the clinical manifestations of this skin condition and interfering with the overall well-being of the patient. Patients and methods: This literature review was based on articles from the PubMed database over the past 10 years, using the English keywords "psoriasis" and "stress". A total of 343 articles were found, which after exclusion criteria resulted in a sample of 10 final articles according to the aim of the study. Discussion: Through a critical analysis of the reviewed studies, it is noted that psychological disorders influence the onset and/or exacerbation of psoriasis, and this dermatosis directly affects the quality of life of these patients in the psychosocial context, creating a vicious circle. Therefore, understanding the link between psychiatric illnesses and psoriasis can lead to a multidisciplinary approach and consequently a more effective treatment for these patients.
